The Prophet of Spring (Is a Little Bit Chonky)

I was staring at a blank screen this morning, trying to find something profound to say, when a literal ball of feathers landed on the branch outside my window.

Meet my neighbor: the roundest, fluffiest, most impressively 'sturdy' robin I have ever seen this early in March. He’s so fat he looks less like a bird and more like a tennis ball with a beak. But as I watched him hop around, I realized he’s exactly what I needed to see.

He’s my tiny, feathered promise that spring is actually coming. Despite the lingering chill, he’s out there, vibrating with life (and maybe a few too many winter berries). He reminds me that joy doesn't have to be a grand milestone or a huge achievement. Sometimes, it’s just a fat bird reminding you that sunshine and warmer weather is right around the corner.

But the robin wasn't the only thing that gave me that 'aha' moment this week. Working at my beauty retailer, I’m surrounded by products all day, but sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that aren't on the package.

The Hack: I recently discovered that one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes, Pinky Ring
in the Morphe Trophy Wife Collection, makes the most incredible, long-wearing lip liner. I’ve been showing it off to my coworkers and customers all week! Use the center metallic color with some setting spray to make the perfect liner. There’s such a specific, nerdy joy in 'hacking' a product and finding a new way to use something you already own.

Lastly, I’ve embraced the 'Short Commute Soundtrack.' My drive to work is exactly six minutes, which is just enough time to hear one great song and get my head in the game.

Lately, it’s been 'Flowers' by Miley Cyrus. There is something so satisfying about pulling into the parking lot right as she hits that final chorus. It reminds me that I can buy my own flowers, write my own name in the sand, and—apparently—use my own eyeshadow as lip liner. It’s the little wins, guys.

I’m heading into the store now to help some people find their own 'pinky ring' glow. I hope you find a fat bird or a perfect song today.

See you in the next post!
